I am have an ongoing problem with a male co worker. We just don?t get along. He very sarcastic with me when he talks to me, the other people in the office say that we are acting child like and that we should grow up. My husband says we are dancing with each other. What should I do when he starts with me. Today one of my other coworkers said that it?s getting old. I asked her to ask me if I cared what she thought. I find that I don?t back off if I get attacked I will fight back. I suppose in a construction corporate setting it is unprofessional on my part. But, I am angry that no one puts a stop to it, they see that I?m defending my self, maybe they think that if it is brought to a head I will also get in trouble with corporate, if you see a question in any of this please advise.
Chris,
I sounds like this male co-worker of yours is quite a pain. Some people
can never turn off the sarcasm. I wonder if he does this only with you
or with your other co-workers? If it?s only with you, then either this
guy really is out to get you, or he may have a secret crush on you and
is wanting the attention.
I can certainly see from your co-workers prospective that this would
get old, and yes, it is unprofessional if taken to extremes.
My suggestion is to try to find out what the root cause of his
sarcasm, is it attention or pure meanness. Either way, this will give
you a better idea how to handle his aggressiveness.
The best solution would be to ignore it, and not fight back, but it
sounds like you may be beyond that point. Once you pinpoint the
problem, the light may come on.
Keep me posted,
Eric
